Like the all-gender RTR, the women-only WRTR is an annual gathering. Seminar topics include safety as a solo female and women’s hygiene on the road. The WRTR offers a more private space to discuss concerns and ideas. Making community and empowerment are common themes.

The RTR is an annual gathering of nomads and like-minded individuals who live a mobile lifestyle in vehicles such as cars, vans, RVs, and buses. It provides an opportunity for community building, sharing resources, and learning about the nomadic lifestyle.

Homes On Wheels Alliance (HOWA) hosts the RTRs.  The RTR was started by Bob Wells in 2011 as a way to form a sense of community and be a resource to nomads on the road. Suanne Carlson started the WRTR in 2018 to address women’s unique issues. Bob and Suanne founded HOWA, which adopted the RTRs in 2019.

• The RTRs are in Quartzsite, AZ at the Town Park’s baseball field at 555 Plymouth Rd.
• The 2025 RTR is from January 11-16, Saturday – Thursday 
• The Women’s RTR is from January 8-10, Wednesday – Friday. 
• Activities are generally scheduled from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM daily.

Bob will be available to meet at the HOWA Booth during the first two afternoons of the RTR.

Here are some ideas:

• BLM Designated 14-Day Camping Areas, no cost registration, no amenities. Quartzsite camping areas include Dome Rock Mountain, Hi Jolly (milepost 112), Plomosa Road, Road Runner (milepost 99), and Scadden Wash. • RV parks with or without hookups, at a cost (search on “Quartzsite RV Parks”) 
• The heart of the RTRs is to find community.  People who meet at the RTRs often end up camping together.
• No camping is allowed at Quartzsite Town Park.

Registration is optional. But, we appreciate it if you would! It’s free to register and it helps us reach out to you to share information about the RTRs, such as a link to the Event App. The RTRs are an informal gathering, and attendees can simply show up at the designated location.

• Yes, on-leash pets are generally welcome.
• Keep them under your control.
• Come prepared with doggie bags, and dispose of bagged poop in trash cans.
• Be sure your pet has access to adequate water and is comfortable in a desert environment.
• Be mindful of other attendees.

DOG BITE POLICY: Any dog who bites will be immediately banned from the event. Additionally, in accordance with local laws, RTR organizers are required to report all dog bites to the police, and the dog owner must be able to present a local dog license, or the animal will be at risk of being impounded.

Yes, the RTRs usually feature a variety of seminars, workshops, music, and social events. Check the event schedule for specific details.

Most of the presentations are planned ahead of time. Applications open in the Fall of 2024.

An Event App (link to be announced) will also have a section for attendees to offer their activities during the event. Some examples might include dog walks, potlucks, disc golf games, etc. These added participant-led activities are not endorsed by HOWA and not part of the official RTRs. The Event App simply provides a way to share opportunities to gather together with others outside of the planned event activities, much like the physical bulletin board.

Yes, close-in parking and a wheelchair-accessible porta-potty will be provided.

Yes, you can come and go as you please during the event. The RTRs are designed to accommodate flexible schedules, allowing attendees to join for the entire duration or just for specific days.
