Life Slows Down in the Summer and so do Donations but the Need Continues

This time of year, it’s easy to imagine nomadic life as the dream — windows down, open skies, the freedom of the road stretching out ahead.

But for many of the nomads we serve, summer tells a different story. Right now, thousands of people are work camping at national parks, harvest sites, and campgrounds — stretching thin paychecks, navigating extreme heat, and living with the reality that one breakdown or emergency could unravel everything.

An E-Fund grant recipient named Robin said it best: “Your response to offer help gave me the calm in my heart to slow down and take a moment.” That calm is what HOWA provides — and it’s only possible because of supporters like you.

Your gift supports three critical HOWA programs:

·The Emergency Fund (eFund)— Direct grants up to $1,500 for safety-related repairs, towing, food, and fuel. In 2025, we helped 39 people with over $10,000 in emergency assistance. Summer demand is high — and we want to be ready.

·In-Person Caravans — Volunteer-led gatherings that bring nomads together for connection and mutual support throughout the season.

The Rubber Tramp Rendezvous (RTR) — Our free annual gathering in Quartzsite, AZ draws 3,500+ nomads for workshops, community, and connection. Planning for our January 2027 event is already underway, and your gift will help cover vital expenses that make this free event possible.
