Our Volunteers Make It All Possible

At Homes on Wheels Alliance (HOWA), volunteers are the backbone of everything we do. We deeply appreciate the time, effort, and dedication of our volunteers who help us support the nomadic community in countless ways. Whether assisting at events or offering ongoing support, our volunteers are essential in helping others thrive on the road.

Each year, we utilize around 200 volunteers to ensure the RTR runs smoothly. We offer a variety of volunteer roles to suit different skills and interests, including:

  • Hospitality: Welcome and assist attendees, helping them feel at home.
  • Ushers: Guide participants to various sessions and activities.
  • Security: Help maintain a safe environment for all attendees.
  • Parking: Assist with the organization and management of parking areas.
  • Sewing: Join our sewing team to create and repair items for the community.
  • Arts and Crafts: Facilitate creative workshops and activities.
  • Free Pile: Manage the free exchange area where participants can donate and take items.
  • Tech Support: Provide technical assistance to ensure smooth operations.
  • First Aid: Offer basic medical assistance and support.
  • Set Up and Tear Down: Help with the logistical setup and breakdown of event infrastructure.
  • Audio/Visual (AV): Assist with the technical aspects of presentations and entertainment.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities

Beyond the RTR, we also have ongoing volunteer roles, including:

  • Virtual Caravans: Help moderate and serve as tech support for our online community gatherings. This is vital in keeping our virtual caravans running smoothly and providing a space for connection and support. For more information, email us at vc@howa.org.
