Welcome! HOWA In-Person Caravans are designed with traveling nomads in mind, especially those who are newer to life on the road and looking for community, connection, and a slower, less overwhelming way to get involved. This caravan runs from October 5th – October 16th. In-Person Caravans do not travel from place to place, instead, we stay put for 12–14 days while participants explore the surrounding area at their own pace. Rather than schedules and mandatory activities, we have anchors (hosts) on site who help create opportunities to connect, such as shared meals and potlucks, movie nights, and campfires when conditions allow.
Camping will be on national forest land. Nothing is supplied. Be prepared for 12-14 days of dry camping. This includes responsibly storing and disposing your human waste. There are no bathroom or disposal facilities at these casual camp locations. Maintain a clean neat camp, leaving the area better than you found it. For more information, check out LeaveNoTrace, as well as the information at TreadLightly. Pack it in, pack it out.
This location is wonderful for relaxing in a forest setting, sightseeing, or hiking. Five national monuments are close enough for day trips and dozens of trails offer hikers various degrees of difficulty and distances. Expect 60-70 degree days and 40-50 degree nights.

Directions to Caravan Location: No Coordinates because they will take you to the wrong spot. Follow these directions: From Flagstaff on I40 – Exit 190 to A1 Mountain Road. Go right at the stop sign (North). Take the first sharp left. That is Forest road 518. Keep going and you’ll follow along the side of the highway about a mile in you’ll see a yellow sign that points to the right that says 15 mph and you take that right. Keep going about another mile up the road where it splits left and right but stay left on the main road one more mile then the meadow is on the left. Look for the orange cone. Camp is approximately 3 miles total off the highway on a gravel road.

Sandi and Jennifer will be the hosts/anchors. Look for Sandi’s white van and Jennifer’s dark blue van. Set up camp and stop by to introduce yourself to Sandi, Jennifer, and Jennifer’s pup, Hayden.
