Welcome! HOWA In-Person Caravans are designed with traveling nomads in mind, especially those who are newer to life on the road and looking for community, connection, and a slower, less overwhelming way to get involved. This caravan runs from September 14 – 25 near Steubenville, Ohio. In-Person Caravans do not travel from place to place, instead, we stay put for 12–14 days while participants explore the surrounding area at their own pace. Rather than schedules and mandatory activities, we have anchors (hosts) on site who help create opportunities to connect, such as shared meals and potlucks, movie nights, and campfires when conditions allow.
This an actual campground with tables, paved parking pads, and vault toilets. There’s a large central fire ring. It’s free! Check in is required and the stay is limited to two weeks. The majority of the area is reclaimed strip mine land and is now a forest.
Important Information:
- There’s a shooting range nearby. Shooting is permitted one-half hour before sunrise and one half-hour after sunset.
- Fill your water before arriving. The water at the campground is not safe to drink.
- There are only 22 campsites. If a lot of people come we may need to double up on the sites.
- The parking pads are narrow and have short drop offs. Be careful when exiting your vehicle.
- If you wish to contribute to a potluck meal bring enough ingredients to share a small serving with three or four people. This is plenty when the other contributions are included.

Kevin will be the anchor/host. Look for his truck with a rooftop tent.
Karen and Tracey may be co anchors/hosts with Kevin for portions of the caravan.
Things to do and Services
Hiking: Two 1/2 mile trails start at the campground. A 3 mile loop trail starts near forest headquarters. Maps are available at the info sign near the toilets.
Fishing: Many of the small ponds are stocked with largemouth bass, bluegills, and channel catfish. Fishing licenses are $14.00 for residents, $27.04 for non-residents
Attractions? This is out in the countryside and there aren’t many interesting places to go and see. Come to enjoy hanging out with other nomads or nomads to be. If you enjoy playing games bring them. Everyone is welcome!
