November 2025
HOWA’s first Mentoring Camp, held on BLM land in Pahrump, Nevada, ran from October 25 – November 2, 2025. The purpose of the camp is to match experienced mentors with new nomads for a week of learning and community building. Each mentor guides a group of four or five new nomads. Since a permit is required for planned activities on public land, Mentor Camps feature casual camping with daily discussions held between the small groups and evening discussions held with all the mentors and nomads. Everyone participates with questions and answers.

Discussion topic include but are not limited to dispersed camping, nomad etiquette, hygiene, safety, vehicle maintenance, budgeting, power, and staying connected.

Downtime at the camp is spent in a variety of ways – attending potlucks, playing games, watching movies, gathering for nightly campfires, and making friends.

HOWA is planning to hold a Mentoring Camp in April, July, and October. Signup will be about a month before the camp start date. There are a few requirements that applicants should meet:
- Vehicles must be registered, insured and mechanically sound for travel.
- Applicants must have financial resources to travel to Pahrump, Nevada and leave area post event.
- Applicants must be physically and mentally able to care for themselves at the event.
