Bob’s Van Sweepstakes Fundraiser

$112,955 raised to help nomads in need! Thank you donors!

Bob Wells, president of HOWA, bought an ambulance in the spring of 2021 and generously donated his 2015 GMC Savana 2500 Cargo Van to HOWA to be used as a fundraiser. The van came with many extra features including a bed platform, shelves, high top, roof vent/fan, tinted windows, 400W of solar panels, four golf cart batteries, 2000W inverter, hot water kit, 600W microwave, and aluminum telescoping ladder.

Bob also donated two more items to raise funds to assist the nomadic community.

With Bluetti’s blessing, Bob donated a AC200MAX and B230 module to HOWA after he did a video review on it. To provide charging for the Bluetti power station, Bob purchased and donated a Bluetti SP200 200W Solar Panel.

Bob also reviewed and donated an ACOPower 42qt Solar LiON Fridge/Freezer with Built-In Battery & 90W Solar Panel for a fundraiser.

Sweepstakes tickets for all of these items were available online on the HOWA Rallyup page and could be bought in person at the WRTR and RTR. The drawings were held on February 02, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Congratulations to the winners!

  • DeAnn H of Oregon – winner of Bob’s Van
  • Kristine R of Texas – winner of Bluetti AC200MAX
  • Rick K of California – winner of ACOPower LiON Fridge/Freezer

The three sweepstakes fundraisers were a huge success, raising almost $113,000 to be used to fund HOWA’s programs. Thank you to all who bought tickets! Together we are changing lives.

We Care Pahrump, Nevada November 2021

In January 2021 HOWA was the recipient of a $3,000 Community Grant from Walmart. Thank you Walmart! In keeping with the requirements that the grant money be distributed to nomads in need in the Pahrump area, a We Care event was held in the spring of 2021. $1000 was distributed leaving a $2000 surplus for another event in the fall of the year. Since this coincideded with the start of the fall caravans the event became mobile and event volunteers traveled to five caravan locations and distributed 52 $100 grants. In all $5,200 was distributed – the $2000 plus $3,200 from generous donors. Thank you donors!

We Care in Pahrump, NV

A generous Community Grant of $3,000 from Walmart was distributed as $50 gifts to nomads in need through HOWA’s We Care Program. Volunteers gathered in Pahrump on April 1st to hand out the gifts. All coronavirus precautions were observed with a drive-through, masks, and plenty of hand sanitizer.  Big smiles could be seen all around in spite of the masks!

We Care Gift Card Program

In early December HOWA received a wonderful donation – $15,000 to be distributed to nomads in need. The anonymous donor stipulated that each vehicle dwelling nomad who could drive to a distribution location would receive a $50 gift. Three locations in Arizona were chosen but due to the great need, the funds were gone after the first two events. The event in Pahrump, Arizona served about 20 nomads; the event in Quartzsite, Arizona, where many nomads spend the winter, served over 300. Additional donations brought the total money distributed to more than $16,000.

For the safety of both the volunteers and recipients, everyone was required to wear a mask. Recipients stayed in their vehicles and material handling was kept to a minimum. The process went very smoothly thanks to an outstanding group of volunteers who directed traffic, accessed the nomad’s need, and distributed gift envelopes. All types of homes on wheels arrived at the distribution location – several motorcycles and even a bicycle!

Walmart Supercenter is donating $3,000 for another We Care gift program that will take place in Pahrump in March 2021. HOWA will continue to accept donations to be added to the $3,000 from Walmart. Thank you to all who donate!  http://HOWA.rallyup.com/HOWAcares

Lives Improved with Solar Donations

HOWA receives many offers from people who wish to donate lightly used equipment. All offers are appreciated but because HOWA staff members are nomads with little room for storage, most offers must be turned down. However, during the spring and fall build outs when a short term storage unit is rented HOWA gladly accepts donations. Such was the case in May 2020 when donors supplied the materials for three complete solar systems.

Vivian and Diane who were in need of more power applied for the solar systems and were provided with 245 W panels from Santan Solar and  charge controllers and other components from  Renogy.  Four almost-new 6V batteries were supplied by an anonymous donor. Friends and family helped the women install the systems in their nomadic homes.

Another anonymous donor supplied a used Kodiak solar generator with a 100W panel which was given to Sara to provide power to her SUV and trailer.

Thank you to all who donated materials and time!  To donate click here.

Two Lectric eBikes Donated

After the April Build Out was canceled due to COVID-19, HOWA found other ways to help the community that didn’t require bringing large groups of volunteers together.  HOWA announced applications for two ebikes to be awarded in May 2020. These bikes were test ridden by people who attended the 2020 RTR and then donated to HOWA by Lectric eBike.

Harley was one of the recipients of an eBike based on his need for alternative transportation.  Thank you Lectric eBikes for your generous donations and for the help you provided to these nomads.

The Lectric eBike is greatly appreciated by Harley and his puppy.

“My summer has been tough, fixing a few major issues in my rig. Days are far too hot to get out with my pup, but once the sun goes down I go out for puppy time on my electric bike donated through HOWA. We stay out for 30 minutes or so and we always have at least a good race.. The pup wins no matter what, and by the time we settle in for the night, I have a very happy dog. He loves to run and this bike allows me so much pleasure to get out with him. Even if my back is acting up, because of this bike, we still get quality time outside. THANK YOU AGAIN! I love my bike and my pup does too!”
